Living in south Florida affords me many opportunities to dive all over the Bahamas. Most of the islands have great diving but I like the less traveled “out islands”. A few years ago I went to Long Island (not in NY) and checked something off my bucket list….I dived Dean’s Blue Hole which is the deepest blue hole in the world at 600+ feet. There were free divers training for the annual free diving competition and it was incredibly cool watching them while I was hanging on scuba at 125 feet…..and they were way below me! There is not much to see…maybe a shark or 2 but, it was great being somewhere a lot of divers do not go. The diving on the rest of this island is pretty good and I always dive with the dive shop at the Cape Santa Maria resort.
Other Bahamian favorites: Bimini….in my back yard and with incredible diving. Water is clear & turquoise as it is with most of the Bahamian islands. The Exumas….just beautiful as are the Abacos with the playful spinner dolphins.
